The middle school staff members chose 6th grader, Sadie Haws as the March Student of the Month. Sadie participates in volleyball, basketball, track, student council, band, softball, swim team, and cheerleading. Sadie believes she was chosen as the middle school student of the month because she is respectful, responsible, and safe. She also enjoys helping other students and teachers in the classroom, hallway, and school activities. Sadie is the daughter of Marcus and Allie Hawkes and Jason Haws.

CHANGE IN LOCATION FOR LITERACY NIGHT! The HES Literacy Night which was scheduled to take place from 6-7:30 Friday at the nature trail has been moved inside the HES gym because of projected cool weather and high wind speeds. Please join us Friday for these presentations: Milford Nature Center - Unlovable Animals, "Ms. Susan" Mueller, deer sheds and turkey calls, and guest readers. You can also complete a letter hunt for prizes, watch an archery demonstration, make a bird house, do a leaf rubbing, and create your own trail mix. Door prizes will be given at the end of the event. We are looking forward to a fun and educational evening and hope to see many HES families. #backontrack

The HES library needs some additional 1- and 2-liter plastic bottles to use for a project at Literacy Night on Friday. If you have any you can share, please get them to the elementary school. Or, if you want to have someone pick them up at your house or work place, please call the elementary school, 785-258-3234, and ask for Mrs. Knopp. Thank you for any help you can provide.

The Junior High Scholars Bowl had their final tournament today, League at Wakefield. They both represented their school with pride and honor! The 7th grade went 4-5. Most of the rounds they lost were incredibly close! They finished out the season great! And the 8th grade got 2nd place; League runners up! Go Railers!

At the June 2021 Kansas State Board of Education meeting, Commissioner of Education Randy Watson announced the establishment of a Graduation Requirements Task Force, which include members of the State Board of Education, business leaders, curriculum directors, high school principals, counselors, teachers, KSHSAA, local boards of education and superintendents, charged with examining graduation requirements in Kansas from at least three different lenses: Additional courses or deletion of courses required for graduation (if any). Examination of competencies and multiple ways to show mastery of skills which allow students to move at their own pace and time. Examination of any additional requirements in addition to the high school diploma (value-added assets such as industry recognized certificate, college credits, etc.) Today, we’re asking for your feedback to help guide the work of this group. Please use this link https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScgh-IpVSnY3zDAAKh1UdVOs48u-bcjLjqxI8gOP2-8TYBQHA/viewform?usp=sf_link to complete a short survey regarding your thoughts on Kansas’ high school graduation requirements.
