HES Little Railers Preschool Information: If you have a child that will turn four before August 31st, 2021 and you are interested in the Little Railers Preschool program at Herington Elementary School, please make an appointment to have them screened. The screening is a required part of the application process for the program. There are fee and grant based spots available in the program for those who qualify. Please call Herington Elementary School at 258-3234 to schedule an appointment.

Notice of Free Early Childhood Screening: Developmental screenings for children ages birth to five will take place on Friday, April 30th in Herington, KS. The screening is provided free of charge and will assess cognitive, motor, language, and social development as well as provide hearing, vision, and dental screenings. Sophia Weber, with HOSA advisor, Jennifer Svitak celebrate at the closing ceremony as the results for the “Researched Persuasive Writing and Speaking” were released. Sophia placed first at the state conference and is headed to the international HOSA conference — was supposed to be held at Florida, but is now virtual. Korey Meier, Hannah Pohlman, Samantha Miller, Jameson Davis, Avery Monnington, Alleigh asserts, Brenna Korgol, Ashley Mascareno, and Tyler Urbanek competed at the state conference as well.

Conner LaRosa has signed to run track at Kansas Wesleyan next year.

Carrie Roe has signed with Butler County Community College next year to play Volleyball.

Rhett Griffiths signed to attend NCK Tech in Beloit next year. He will be completing a Certification in HVAC. He is currently completing his Certification in Industrial Machining at Salina Area Technical College.

No School for Students on April 5th. Teachers will be attending inservice meetings that day. Also, No School on April 23rd due to a planned power outage in the City of Herington.

Phase 5 of COVID-19 vaccination efforts is open. Junior and Senior students will receive a survey, in their school email, to indicate their interest in receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. If enough interest is generated, the Dickinson County Health Department will schedule a school-based clinic for administration. We encourage all families to have a conversation about this opportunity and have your student complete the survey.

Friendly Reminder: The Herington Elementary School Kindergarten Round-Up will be Monday, April 5, 2021. The child must be five years old on or before August 31, 2021 to attend Kindergarten next term. Prospective students and their parents are encouraged to attend Kindergarten Round-Up to become informed and prepared for your child’s Kindergarten year. Each student will be given an assessment to indicate their level of readiness for Kindergarten. The screening will focus on motor skills, concepts, social/emotional skills and language. During this time, parents will fill out the enrollment form and go over medical information with the school nurse. Parents are asked to bring their child’s state-certified birth certificate, immunization records, and a recent health assessment (if available). Appointments are required and will occur at Herington Elementary School. Please call Herington Elementary School at 785-258-3234 to schedule an appointment for Monday, April 5. The process will take approximately a half an hour.

The CTSO programs are currently competing in virtual competitions as well as campaigning and running for State Office. Interviews and testing has been taking place the past couple weeks. Good Luck to the competitors. Results will be posted as they come in.

HES Families: The PTO apparel fundraiser items have arrived. You may come pick up your items from the HES office on Wednesday, March 31st from 8:30-2:30. If you do not come pick up your items in the office, we will send the apparel home with the students.
