FALL SPORT PRACTICES - BEGIN MONDAY! Fall sports practices will begin after school on Monday, August 16th! We are looking forward to getting started with our fall activities. Practice times and places are as follows: JH Volleyball - grades 6-8 girls - practice after school in the middle school gym. Be dressed and ready to practice by 3:40 (Coach Carol Stillwell) JH Football - grades 7-8 boys - practice after school - meet in Mr. Lingenfelser's room by 3:40 ( Coach Blake Homman) HS Volleyball - grades 9-12 girls - practice after school in the high school gym - Be dressed and ready to practice by 3:40 ( Coach Lisa Beye) HS Football - grades 9-12 boys - practice after school - meet in the locker room to change out by 3:45 ( Coach Cade Albert) **ALL PHYSICALS MUST BE TURNED INTO THE OFFICE BEFORE PLAYERS CAN PRACTICE GO RAILERS!

Back to Activities Night!! We are looking forward to the 2021-2022 school year. Herington Schools have a variety of activities and pathways that students can take advantage of. We would like to start the year off on a positive note and let students and parents have a chance to see what all there is to offer. This event is sponsored by SALT, Orange Express and Thrivent. All students 6-12 are encouraged to attend with a parent/guardian.

Fall Sports Apparel and Book bags still for sale: Last call for book bag sales. They are $40. Please contact Lisa Beye at lbeye@usd487.org to order your bag. Personalization does not cost extra. The Football and Volleyball Teams currently have apparel stores open for sale of Railer Gear. These do not go through the school. You get online and order what you want and it ships to you. We are excited to announce a New Program that will start this School Year in USD #487! The Program NASP-National Archery in the Schools Program was approved by the USD #487 BOE in July to begin this School Year. NASP started 20 years ago in Kentucky & 15 years ago in KS. There are over 150 schools in KS who are involved. The NASP Program will be offered to any male & female students in Grades 4 thru 12 in USD #487! We encourage everyone who is interested in the Awesome Program for our Students to pick-up informational packets during the Open House event on Wednesday 8/11 & Thursday 8/12. Please feel free to drop by the Herington Middle School Science Room & meet & visit with Mr. Fewin the new HMS Science Teacher about the Archery Program & the opportunities for our students. Mr. Fewin brings 8 years of NASP Archery experience to Herington & has had student Archers compete at Regional, State & National Tournaments. There are numerous opportunities for students to receive college scholarships to shoot Archery also. Mr. Biehler will be helping Mr. Fewin with the NASP Program! Mr. Biehler & Mr. Fewin are extremely excited bring NASP Archery to our students & are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the new equipment! We look forward to seeing everyone Wednesday & Thursday evening!

We will be offering backpacks for sale again this year. $40 per backpack. Orders can be submitted through Lisa Beye at lbeye@usd487.org. If you are personalizing the backpack money needs to be received before it is ordered. Arrangements can be made with Lisa Beye to collect the money. Orders are due by Friday, August 13th. BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT!!!!! Thursday, August 12th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. All schools will be hosting a back to school night. All families/students please join us to drop off supplies, meet your teachers, and kick off a new school year together!!!

6th graders, 9th graders, and any MS/HS students new to USD 487....Orientation Night will be held on Wednesday August 11th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Middle school students and families please come to the main entrance of the Middle school (1317 N. D Street). High School families please come to the ticket booth entrance (Multiple sets of maroon doors near the large parking lot at 1401 N. D street) Hear from your building principal, get a tour of the facilities, and meet your teachers!

HES Kindergarten Families: Monday, August 16th will be an orientation day for kindergarten families. An HES staff member will be reaching out to each kindergarten family to set up these appointments in the next few days. The first day of school for kindergarten students will be Tuesday, August 17th. Preschool and 1st-12th grade students first day of school will be Monday, August 16th.

Salina Public Schools USD305, in conjunction with Herington USD487, are looking to hire paraprofessionals for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. Back to School Supplies

It is time to begin thinking about enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year! K-12 enrollment information: Online enrollment will begin on Monday, July 26th. If you need support please reach out to Jennifer Duenas at jduenas@usd487.org. Walk-in enrollment will occur on Tuesday, August 3rd from 10 am - 7 pm at Herington Elementary School for new students/families and folks that prefer in-person enrollment. Little Railers Preschool enrollment information: Enrollment for preschool will take place on Tuesday, August 3rd from 10 am - 7 pm at Herington Elementary School. Herington USD 487 is currently looking for an elementary aide. This position consists of supervision of students during lunch and recess, small group instruction, and assisting the library media specialist. This is a full time position with benefits. Interested parties may pick up an application at the Board of Education office (19 N. Broadway) in Herington. Position will be open until filled.

Back in January, Ms. Clark's MTSS watched the YouTube movie, "Life in a Day." Inspired by this the class planned, videoed, and created their own version of this film. They took one day to film their lives at home, at school, and after school. Students also took time to ask a variety of questions to people, which you will find in the film. Mrs. Beye, Sophia Weber, Emma Alt and Megan Mortensen spent the morning at Rolling Hills Zoo Conference Center. The group had a State FBLA Board Meeting.
