On February 17th The Herington Railer Archery Team traveled to Overland Park, KS to compete in the Border Wars tournament. Border Wars is a two day indoor bullseye event that hosted over 900 archers from 9 different states. This is the largest event the Railer Archery team has ever attended with some of the best archery shooters in the Midwest in attendance. While The Railer Archery team was not fortunate enough to bring home any medals from this tournament, we had several archers achieve new personal best scores. ES Archer Highlights: Carly Miller, 5th grade, shot a new personal best score of 241 for 8th place in her division and was the only archer from Herington to place in the top 10. Anastaria Haynes,, 5th grade, shot a new personal best score of 190. MS Archer Highlights: Hunter Haws, 6th grade, shot a new personal best score of 207. Ivy Osburn, 7th grade, was the top female shooter from Herington and shot a new personal best score of 274. Tyson Schlesener, 7th grade, shot a new personal best score of 236. Gage Billinger, 8th grade, was the top male shooter from Herington with a score of 274. HS Archer Highlights: Leland Urban, 9th grade, shot a new personal best score of 262. Alex Kibler-Deyoe,12th grade and a first year archer, shot a new personal best score of 231. The Railer Archery team travels to Clearwater, KS this coming Saturday, 2/24, to compete against 9 schools in the bullseye competition and 5 schools in our first 3D competition of the season.

Three Herington High School FBLA Members have started a community service project this winter. They created a 4th and 5th grade basketball team that competes through the Junction City YMCA. They play each Saturday and Sophia Weber, Tyus Becker, and Kenzie Castleberry are the coaches. USD 487 is proud of them for taking the initiative and time to invest in these children. We hope this sparks growth in all students to strive for more!

First grade students recently experienced several fun learning opportunities. On Kansas Day Ms. Susan Mueller read S is for Sunflower to the students. On the 100th day of school, they counted out 10 pieces of 10 different snacks. In science they learned about the first unmanned spacecraft to perform a soft landing on the moon on Feb. 3, 1966. The students made their own "spacecraft" out of paper cups and pipe cleaners. #LevelUpRailers
