Mrs. Weber's kindergarten students celebrated Kansas Day by using a graham cracker to make the state of Kansas (with its corner nibbled off to match the shape of KS). A little chocolate frosting was used to create a sunflower on top of their edible map! #breakingout

HES Families: We are full of spirit at HES! There was some great Kansas Day attire worn this week. Next week we will be celebrating the Chiefs getting back to the Super Bowl with some more spirit days. Once again, participation in the spirit days is always optional. Please see the image for information about how to show off your Chiefs spirit next week!

The middle school staff members chose 7th grader, Isabelle Ecklund, as the January Student of the Month. Isabelle participates in Band, Volleyball, Basketball, Swim Team, Softball, and is the Vice-President of Student Council. Isabelle thinks that she was awarded student of the month because she is a hard working student who turns in her assignments on time, even though she is busy with sports and does well on her assignments. She also believes she is respectful to her peers and teachers, listens to classroom instructions and participates when asked. Isabelle is the daughter of Randy Ecklund and Ashley Ecklund.

Herington Elementary 3rd-5th Grade Remote Learners enjoyed the Kansas Day festivities! Today, a special guest helped out with celebrating Kansas Day! Mrs. Susan presented a Kansas Day read aloud, hosted Kansas Day trivia, and each student was provided with materials for a sunflower "craftivity". A huge thank you to the Herington Public Library and Mrs. Susan Mueller for providing this opportunity for our remote students. #breakingout

Future mathematicians, engineers, artists, and writers are #breakingout at Little Railers Preschool!

Herington Middle School students Adrianna Purkeypyle, Adrian Harrison, Hunter Koehn, Jesse Meier, and Brandon Miller had a great afternoon at the Dickinson County Spelling Bee. Jesse finished in second place and Hunter was the third place speller. Jesse will represent Dickinson County at the State Spelling Bee and Hunter will be the first alternate. Congratulations Railers!

Good evening,
Herington schools will continue to operate in the "yellow" for the upcoming week. This means that all students in grades Preschool through 12th can attend in person. Thank you for all your efforts to keep our kids attending in person and participating in activities!

HHS Student of the Month - January
Senior - Sarah Biehler
Sarah is the daughter of Troy and Donalyn Biehler.
She is involved in FCCLA, FBLA, Band, Mentor Program, Cheerleading, Student Council, NHS, Drama Club, and current Class President.
.
When asked why she thinks she was selected for Student of the Month, Sarah answered, “I feel I was selected as student of the month because of my dedication to my schoolwork and academic goals, as well as to my extra-curricular activities. I do my best to be helpful to and supportive of my peers while pursuing the goals I set for myself.”
Mrs. Geissert feels that Sarah was chosen for Student of the Month because “Sarah is a conscientious student. She works hard to complete assignments on time and with exceptional quality. She is also fun to have in class because she participates in class discussions and she works well with other students.”
Congratulations Sarah!
