
Day one of the Little Railer Kids Basketball Clinic was a success. Thank you to the 40+ kids K-5 who joined us. We had a great first day. See you all next Saturday at 10:00 am.



Kindergarten Round-Up at HES - Families will please need to call the HES office at 785-258-3234 to register for this event. We are moving this event to the evening from 5:30-6:30. Our current group of kindergarten students will continue to have a normal school day session on April 28th.

Kindergarten Round-Up at Herington Elementary School
Kindergarten Round-Up in the Herington School District will be Thursday, April 28th, 2022 at Herington Elementary School. The child must be five years old on or before August 31, 2022 in order to attend Kindergarten next term.
Prospective students and their parents are encouraged to attend Kindergarten Round-Up and become informed and prepared for your child’s Kindergarten year. Each student will be given an assessment to indicate their level of readiness for Kindergarten. The screening will focus on motor skills, concepts, social/emotional skills and language.
During the time the student assessments are occurring, parents will fill out enrollment forms and go over medical information with the school nurse. Parents are asked to bring their child’s state-certified birth certificate, immunization records, and a recent health assessment (if available).
Appointments are required and will occur at Herington Elementary School. Please call Herington Elementary School at 785-258-3234 to schedule an appointment for Kindergarten Round-Up on Thursday, April 28th. The process will take approximately an hour.

HES Basketball Clinic Reminder:
Our first clinic starts tomorrow at 10am! Please plan to arrive a few minutes early to participate in the short parent meeting. Enter through the elementary doors and please remember to send a water bottle and clean, non-marking shoes with your student. Future clinic dates are: April 2nd, April 9th, April 23rd, and April 30th.

HES first grade students created translucent stained glass windows after learning about light traveling through materials and whether they are transparent, translucent, or opaque! #backontrack





Today, Mr. Hirsch’s world history class did an interactive game that had students step into the shoes of General George Washington during the Revolutionary War. Students were ALL engaged and enjoyed the unique activity that really made them feel like they were there at the actual Newburgh Conspiracy. They listened to different point of views to decide what they should do as Washington.




Fourth grade students integrated science into their social studies curriculum by creating three dimensional, topographical maps of different southwest states they are studying! #backontrack

We will have our March All School Assembly at our regularly monthly scheduled time – March 25th at 3:00 in the HES gym. All families are invited to attend the monthly assemblies.
HES will also be kicking off a fundraiser for our local Herington Hearts community group at our March All School Assembly. Students will receive a fundraising packet and will have a chance to win different prizes based upon how much money they raise for the Herington Hearts organization. The fundraiser will begin Friday, March 25th and all packets will need to be returned to the school on Friday, April 8th. Our top fundraisers will also have an opportunity to throw a pie in the face of some our staff members at HES!

Little Railers Preschool celebrated World Down Syndrome Day by decorating their own pair of unique socks to celebrate diversity and inclusion for ALL children! #backontrack

The Herington High School winter awards ceremony will ne held on Monday, March 28 at 6:30pm in the hy school gymnasium. This is a change from Tuesday, March 22.

Here are the 4th grade winning donuts! Conner Barber's "Chiefs Donut" is red velvet with vanilla frosting and red and yellow sprinkles. Dawn from Sweet Creations included a little white chocolate flavoring. Casanova Cronk's "Harliey Donut" is chocolate with vanilla frosting and Oreo with chocolate flavoring.
We are so proud of all of our 4th graders for the unique and creative donuts that they created and are very grateful to Dawn and Sweet Creations for making the winning donuts come to life. She went above and beyond our expectations!




HHS Dance Team Tryouts for the 2022-2023 school year will take place on Wednesday April 6th. Sign up sheet is in the high school office until Monday March 28th (one week from today)!

Free Early Childhood Screening
Developmental screenings for children ages birth to five will take place on Friday, April 29th in Herington. The screening is provided free of charge and will assess cognitive, motor, language, and social development as well as provide hearing, vision, and dental screenings. Please call 785-258-3234 to schedule an appointment.
If you have a child that will turn four before August 31st, 2022 and you are interested in the Little Railers Preschool program at the elementary school, please make an appointment to have them screened. The screening is a required part of the application process for the program. There are fee and grant based spots available in the program for those who qualify. Contact Mrs. Nelson or Dr. Morgan at the elementary school with any questions at 785-258-3234.

Congratulations to the HES February student of the month – Colton Barber, third grade student in Mrs. Steiner’s class! Colton has been working so hard in class. He is always willing to help his peers if needed. He is very thoughtful and kind as well. Colton demonstrates a lot of patience and thoughtfulness towards his classmates on a daily basis. He has been working very hard every month to meet his AR goal. He follows the Railway expectations inside and outside of the classroom. We are very proud of how much Colton has improved during the past few months! Colton is the son of Jane Lockwood and Rusty Barber.


HMS and HHS parents and students -- we will move the Orange Schedule back to Wednesday starting this week. A reminder that this means we will have shortened classes in the morning and then advisory and FLEX time in the afternoon. Thanks!
