The Herington Elementary School August student of the month is Maelie Houseman – fourth grade student in Mrs. Barnes’s class. Maelie knows how to follow our Railway expectations in the classroom, hallway, restroom, café, and on the playground. She has really improved as a student because she works hard, listens to her teachers, and always does her personal best. Maelie has a positive attitude and treats all of her classmates respectfully and kindly. We know Maelie is going to continue to be leader this year in fourth grade. Maelie is the daughter of Michael and Monika Houseman.
The HES staff wants to say a huge THANK YOU to our local Family Resource Exchange and Teacher Support Group for gifting us some teaching resources and inspiration/appreciation items!
HES students and staff had their first “data day rotations” for this year. During these rotations, kindergarten practiced names using daubers, first grade made rockets, second grade made rainbow clouds, and third through fifth grades made spinners!
Herington Elementary School has an opening for a paraeducator position in our Little Railers Preschool program. This is a USD305 CKCIE cooperative paraeducator position (these positions report for duty on site at Herington Elementary School but are employed through USD305). The Lady Railer Volleyball team brings home a 4th place finish from the Centre Tournament. The Railers dropped their last match to Berean Academy 12-25, 15-25.
Next action for the Railers will be Tuesday night in Herington!!

Berean Academy hands the Lady Railer Volleyball team their first loss of the Centre Tournament 20-25, 20-25.

Please join us tonight at the football field at 6:45 p.m. with a bench dedication in memory of Cindy Biehler. Cindy served Herington USD 487 schools for 27 years and was a huge supporter of all Railer activities. Come help us honor her memory.

HMS Football's comeback falls short against Centre. After giving up 24 straight points, the the Railers were able to score the next 12 points. Both teams scored late touchdowns.

Miranda Shaffer is the daughter of Elizabeth Patterson.
Miranda believes she was chosen because “I am respectful, honest and helpful.”
Miranda is a senior at Herington, who involves herself in: Forensics, Drama and Cheer.
Mr. Hirsch believes Miranda got student of the month because “she is one of the most reliable students I know. She may be quiet, but she has a moral compass that guides her through life. She also has been putting herself out there this last year more. She took my theatre/forensics class and thrived! She even went to a forensics tournament where she performed her prose speech in front of an audience and judge! No one would have believed that, but she pushed herself and performed incredibly. She has a voice, and it is kind, generous, and caring. I am so excited to see where life takes Miranda as she continues to grow and find out who she is.”
