During the month of October, Middle School students competed against each other to collect the most change to be donated to the local Elsie Brooks Breast Cancer Foundation. The school collected $99.24 with the 7th grade class donating the most. The 7th grade class was awarded a pizza party sponsored by MS Student Council. The check is being presented by Student Council President Kenley Kickhaefer and Vice President Gage Billinger.

Payten Schneider, HHS alumna and Dental Hygiene student, visited Mrs. Schneider’s fifth grade classroom to give a Dental Hygiene presentation. Students had a hands-on opportunity to practice brushing and flossing techniques. #GameOnRailers

The HES October student of the month is Cecily Beck - second grade student in Mrs. Meyer’s class. Cecily has worked so hard to pass 12 Accelerated Reader tests and is now reading chapter books. Any free time Cecily has, she is reading. Therefore, she has reached her quarterly goal! She also is extremely kind and sweet to everyone around her. Cecily is always on task and never has to be reminded of what she should be doing. She is a great example of following our Railway expectations! We are so lucky to have Cecily in our school. Cecily is the daughter of Tony Beck (father), Lauren Spelts (mother) and Bryan Houchens (stepfather).

After reading a story about how Native Americans took care of the prairie by burning the grasses each year, the fourth grade classes were visited by Nathan Brunner, owner of Fire For Hire. His prescribed burning company assists farmers and landowners in restoring prairie grasses for animal habitat, invasive plant control, and grass rejuvenation. It was a great text-to-world connection to see that these things still happen today! #gameonrailers
