
HHS Speech and Drama traveled to Hays to compete at the Old Fort Hays Forensics Invitational. We had 9 events break into the finals round:
Conley Souza—5th place in Solo Acting
Conley Souza and Cheyenne Purkeypyle—2nd place in IDA, qualifying for the state tournament.
Henry Nelson—2nd place in Original Oration, qualifying for the state tournament.
Jesse Meier—6th place in International Extemporaneous Speaking
Aidan Thibodeau—3rd place in US Extemporaneous Speaking, qualifying for state festival
Cheyenne Purkeypyle and Aidan Thibodeau—5th place in Duet Acting
Alyssa Price—4th place in Serious Solo Acting
Christian Camp—5th place in Informative Speaking
Alexandra Maples—6th place in Informative Speaking
The students also wanted to thank the Orange Express for the snack bags they provided! This was a wonderful treat!
These competitors still have a very full season in front of them so be sure to cheer on your Railer Speech and Drama team! 🚂🎭

Free Kindergarten Round-Up Event at Herington Elementary School
Kindergarten Round-Up in Herington Schools USD487 will be Wednesday, April 30th at 5:30 at Herington Elementary School. Your child must be five years old on or before August 31st, 2025 in order to attend Kindergarten next term. We will be doing an individual photo of each student signing their "letter of intent" to attend kindergarten at HES next year. We will plan on posting an individual photo of each student (with or without parents and siblings) on our school district's Facebook page. Your student will need to attend kindergarten round-up on Wednesday, April 30th in order to have their photo on the school district's Facebook page.
Prospective students and their parents are encouraged to attend Kindergarten Round-Up and become informed and prepared for your child’s Kindergarten year. Students and families will have the opportunity to meet staff members and hear some important information for next year.
Parents will have some time to fill out enrollment forms and go over medical information with the school nurse. Parents are asked to bring their child’s state-certified birth certificate, immunization records, and a recent health assessment (if available).
Please call Herington Elementary School at 785-258-3234 to confirm your attendance for Kindergarten Round-Up on Wednesday, April 30th. The process will take approximately one hour.

Free Early Childhood Screening at Herington Elementary School
Developmental screenings for children ages birth to five will take place on Thursday, April 17h at Herington Elementary School. The screening is provided free of charge and will assess cognitive, motor, language, and social development as well as provide hearing, vision, and dental screenings. Parents will have the opportunity to complete an application for Little Railers Preschool at (or before) the screening. The screening is a required part of the application process for the HES Little Railers Preschool program. There are fee and grant based spots available in the program for those who qualify. Contact Miss Mayes or Dr. Morgan at the elementary school with any questions or if you need support getting a time reserved for your child to complete the screening at 785-258-3234.

Juniors in Ms. Clark's English class wrapped up a unit on the Depression and Dust Bowl Era by completing a "gallery walk." Students had to analyze famous photos from the era.
