HES had an assistant principal helping out this morning! Miss Dixie Ridenour earned this with her positive behavior points. She helped with field day set-up, student behaviors, and in the cafe. #LevelUpRailers
Mrs Mein’s Early Childhood and Teaching classes went and did story time for Ms Susan at the library. But with the rain they went to Discovery Daycare, so the kids didn’t have to walk. Where they made a craft, had a snack, and Hs students read to the children.

Hello USD 487 Families,
If your child going to be in middle school or high school next year and plans on participating in any sports, we are offering sports physicals at the school next week for $25. Please have your child sign up in their school offices. We ask that all sports physical forms be filled out and turned into the school by May 6th. Sports physicals can be paid in cash or check to USD 487. Please call your school with any questions!

Kindergarten Round-Up in the Herington School District will be Wednesday, May 1st, 2024 at 5:30 at Herington Elementary School. Your child must be five years old on or before August 31st, 2024 in order to attend Kindergarten next term. Prospective students and their parents are encouraged to attend Kindergarten Round-Up and become informed and prepared for your child’s Kindergarten year. Students and families will have the opportunity to meet staff members and hear some important information for next year.
Parents will have some time to fill out enrollment forms and go over medical information with the school nurse. Parents are asked to bring their child’s state-certified birth certificate, immunization records, and a recent health assessment (if available). Please call Herington Elementary School at 785-258-3234 to confirm your attendance for Kindergarten Round-Up on Wednesday, May 1st (if you haven't already done so). The process will take approximately 30-45 minutes.

HES Families: We have field day coming up this Friday, May 3rd at 1:00 at the HHS football field. Students will rotate to different stations around the football field until 3:00. At that time, we will have the class tug of war games on the football field. Students are welcome to wear/bring sunscreen. A big thank you to PTO for providing water bottles and snacks for field day. We will send out text alerts, make a Facebook post, or send a note home if we have to postpone or change the field day start time for anything weather related (i.e. if an HMS/HHS home track meet gets rescheduled to Friday). Each class is also invited to wear a specific color of shirt on Friday for field day:
- Kindergarten – purple, 1st – blue, 2nd – green, 3rd – pink, 4th – yellow, 5th – red
Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up soon and we are wanting to express our gratitude to the amazing staff we have at HES. The HES PTO and USD487 Administrative Team will be putting together our “Treat Train” for all of our HES staff to select items from during Teacher Appreciation Week. If any parents or community members would like to add any items to the “Treat Train” that would be greatly appreciated. Gift cards to local businesses, candles, jewelry, snacks, drinks, and any other items similar to this would be terrific. This will begin on Teacher Appreciation Day – Tuesday, May 7th. Please drop off items you want to add to the “Treat Train” in the HES front office any time. Thank you!
We are excited to have some new Railer staff members joining the HES team next year! We are still looking for a high-quality preschool or 5th grade classroom teacher and paraprofessionals for the 2024-2025 school year. We are always in need of additional bus drivers and substitute teachers.
