IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ON EVENT LOCATION - Thursday,October 17: Thursday, October 17th Herington JH will be playing Peabody JH. The game is scheduled to be played at Herington. However, due to the fact that Peabody is playing 6-man football the option of playing the football game on an 8-man field vs playing on an 11-man field has been made. The football game only will be played at Centre Schools next Thursday. The volleyball matches will still be played in Herington. Those matches will be played in the Elementary Gym due to HS Volleyball being played in the HS/MS Gyms. We also know that it is 8th grade recognition. We will recognize 8th grade volleyball between the A and B matches at approximately 5:30 in the Herington Elementary Gym. 8th grade football will be recognized at Centre Schools at 5:45. We appreciate your willingness to be flexible with the changes that are being made next Thursday. Herington passes will be accepted at the football game at Centre!

Reality U is returning to HMS/HHS and we'd love volunteers!!!   On Tuesday, November 12th, from 8:45-12:00 we will be hosting our annual Reality-U Financial Literacy Simulation with our 8th and 10th grade students, with Centre's 8th and 10th grade students also joining in on the fun. Reality U is a 90-minute financial literacy simulation that provides students a glimpse into what life could look like as a 26 year old. Each student is provided a monthly income, credit card debt, as well as their marital and family status. Students visit various stations where they manage their monthly finances, including paying their mortgage, utilities, food, car & medical insurance, as well as other common monthly expenses. If you are interested in volunteering with this simulation the morning of Tuesday, November 12th, please contact Melissa Brunner, USD 487 Director of Student Learning, either by email at mbrunner@usd487.org (mailto:mbrunner@usd487.org), or by calling the HHS office at 785-258-2261

Railers: We are hoping to see everyone in just a couple of days for our big National Blue Ribbon School ceremony and celebration on Friday, October 11th! Attendees are encouraged to wear blue. The festivities will all begin with a ceremony at 12:30 in the gym, followed by a student/staff photo, and then we will wrap-up with student/family celebration stations and a dance party. We will have regular dismissal on Friday. Make sure to be a part of this special accomplishment that our students, staff, and families have worked so hard to achieve!

HES first grade students took a trip to the Herington community garden this afternoon thanks to Bret Toews at K-State Research and Extension! They learned about different varieties of pumpkins, how they grow, and each student received a pumpkin. Students also worked together to harvest seeds from some of the pumpkins that they will be roasting soon.
