From 3:30pm-9:00pm yesterday, the Herington Forensics team started off their season with a great tournament in Marion! Everyone did an amazing job, even considering that this was their very first one ever! Medaling in Serious Solo, getting 5th place was Julianna Fisher. Medaling in IDA, getting 3rd place was the team of Hailey Delisle and Myranda Stika. AMAZING performances from the rest of the team really made Coach Hirsch extremely proud. Also, they were so hungry after for pizza they insisted taking pictures with Casey’s Pizza. :) They go to the Hillsboro tournament on Monday with 11 students! That starts at 3:45 and will last until around 9 as well. Wish them luck!

Punctuation, Accuracy, Rate, and Expression (PARE) are important concepts for developing fluent readers. In this MTSS group, students stamped the punctuation to bring attention to appropriate pauses, which helps support fluent reading. Fluent reading is one of many areas that helps develop reading comprehension. #growinglearners

Kindergarteners in Mrs. Kahle's reading group retold the story of "We're Going on a Bearhunt" today. They have been learning about character and setting. In order to help understand these story elements, each group chose an animal, researched the animal's habitat and created pictures of the habitats and characters. Today, they used that learning to take their audience on a hunt to find their animals. #growinglearners

Senior English had a visit from "Bob Ross" this morning. As part of a research project, the senior class had to write a paper and create a presentation that would marry both English and another class of their choosing.

The middle school staff members chose 8th grader, Trenton Braucher, as the January Student of the Month. Trenton has participated in football, wrestling, and track while attending Herington Middle School. Trenton believes the staff chose him as student of the month because he works hard to get his homework done, he uses his time wisely in class, he is willing to help other students and he is involved in school activities. Trenton is the son of Tonya Braucher. Written by Amanda Hawkins
