Parents of the Class of 2026. I will be working with the seniors tomorrow to have them set up their FAFSA username and ID. This is what they will need to fill to have to apply for Pell grants and Federal loans for college. Most colleges require FAFSA to be filled out as well before they will offer a scholarship package to an incoming student. FAFSA opens on October 1. I am putting this link out there so you can review what you will need to do as well. There are FAQs and short tutorial videos to help with the process. The FAFSA form you and your student will need to fill out is the 2026-27 form. It is not out yet, but will be soon. The tax information you will need is from your tax return for the 2024 year. https://studentaid.gov/apply-for-aid/fafsa/filling-out#creating-an-account

HES 3rd graders participated in a Constitution Day Event on Sept. 17. They joined over 17,000 other 3rd graders across Kansas and the U.S. in this event by the Kansas State Department of Education, Olathe USD 233, and the 10th Judicial District of Kansas.

Students learned about the U.S. Constitution, which was signed on Sept. 17, 1787. Delaware Governor Matt Meyer, Kansas Senator Jerry Moran, and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch talked about the three branches of government. Students observed a live, mock trial and participated as jurors. At the conclusion of the trial, they had time to deliberate and then decide whether the defendant is guilty or not guilty. HES students decided there wasn't enough evidence, so they gave the verdict of not guilty!

On Wednesday, September 10th the Middle School Student Council traveled to the Maize Performing Arts and Aquatic Center for a Student Council Workshop. Upon arrival students were given Kansas Stuco shirts and encouraged to join in some dancing. Students were divided into several small groups to exchange ideas for fundraising and school activities. There was a keynote speaker, Dustin Galyon, who is a very interactive storyteller that allows his audience to take ownership in every presentation. He inspires others to build better relationships. Several students volunteered and were chosen to participate in activities up on the stage. It was a full day of learning and fun was had by all.

Parents of the HMS volleyball players - If you have not given me the size of t-shirt for your team member, please do so ASAP. I am wanting to send the order today to the company we are using for shirts this year. Please include if it is a youth or adult size. You can put it in the team groupme, or DM me on groupme, or email me at jpritchard@usd487.org. Each shirt is $20 and if you want one for yourself or a family member, include that as well. Thanks! Coach Pritchard
