Fourteen students represented Herington High School in the Wheat State League Honor Band. These students were selected to play with other league schools' honor band students. The Honor Band performed at Kansas Wesleyan University on Monday, February 10, 2025.
The selected students are: Naomi Murphy, Adrian Harrison, Kyrie Lindsey, Cheyenne Purkeypyle, Hannah Pritchard, Payton Arnold, Jakaylynn Meier, Hunter Purkeypyle, Jesse Meier, Gage Billinger, Hunter Matthews, Gabe Vinduska, Aiden Rogers, and Mallory Arnold.
Due to the chance of weather moving in tomorrow night, the HS Basketball games at Centre tomorrow night have been moved up an hour. We will follow the following schedule.
4:00 1/2 JV Boys
5:00 V Girls
6:30 V Boys

HHS Speech and Drama traveled to both Sterling and Great Bend today.
At Sterling they placed 2nd overall as a team!!! Individually students placed as follows:
Isabelle and Henry: 1st place in Duet (Qualifying for State)
Henry and Cheyenne: 3rd place in IDA
Mallory: 3rd place in Oration
Alyssa: 5th place in Prose
Henry: 5th place in Oration
Aidan: 5th place in Extemp
Mallory: 6th place in Extemp

HES wants to say a big THANK YOU to all of the local businesses that step up to do special things for our students and staff! We have recently received donations from Casey's, Iserve, Pizza Hut, and Barnes Heartland Foods. We have used the donated items to provide a little "pick me up" for our students and staff. HES also received donations from several businesses and families last fall for our National Blue Ribbon Award ceremony and celebration. We are so appreciative of all the support we receive from our local community!

Today our Railer Scholars Bowl team traveled to Thomas More Prep in Hays for the Regional tournament. There were 16 schools in the first round and of those the top 6 advanced to the finals. We were very excited to make it to the finals round and take 5th place overall!
The team is very excited to see what they can do next year! Keep cheering on your HHS Railers! 🧡♥️🖐️
USD 487 currently has an opening for a Board of Education member. Interested parties should obtain an application from the Board of Education office located at 19 N. Broadway in Herington.
HES families: One last reminder we have our PTO donuts with grown-ups tomorrow morning at 7:30 am and our PTO friendship dance at 6:00 pm both in the HES gym. We are also inviting any students to participate in a red Friday spirit day to support the Chiefs in the Super Bowl on Sunday!

FCCLA attended District Elections/ Star Events in Abilene, Ks. We had one retiring as a District Officer and had two elected for the 2025-26 school year. Congratulation to Cadence Sill-Sheppard and Koryn Alexander. We have three groups going on to state to compete in their Star Events. All will attend state in April. Way to go Railers….
