Herington High School - December Student of the Month - Jameson Davis
Jameson Davis is the child of Shelby Monnington and Scott Davis.
Jameson believes she was chosen because “I have absolutely no clue. I work hard most of the time, I get good grades, I’m pretty good with photoshop and I’m good at trumpet; I guess one of those could be it.”
Jameson is a senior at Herington High School, who involves self in: Band, Scholar’s Bowl, Drama Club, Golf, and previously HOSA.
Mr. Pritchard believes Jameson was chosen for Student of the Month “because she does well academically, is friendly to other students and has a great sense of humor and
personality.”

Various TikTok challenges involving schools continue to circulate. Some focus on vandalism, or property damage. The most recent challenge asks participants to threaten violence against their schools. We are asking parents to help us by talking to your students, and to discourage their possible participation in these challenges. Student participation in these challenges could lead to school consequences or charges being filed with law enforcement. There are no specific local threats at this time. Please know that USD 487 is working with local and County law enforcement to ensure the safety of our students. Thank you for your assistance as well.

Due to the National Weather Service Advisory to shelter in place because of high winds (up to 80 mph), students will be held at school today until at least 4:00 p.m.
The HES November student of the month is Charlie Kickhaefer! Charlie is a second grade student in Mrs. Meyer’s class. She is making great gains so far this year with both her academics and social skills. She works really hard in the classroom. Charlie is also coming out of her shell and becoming more confident in answering questions and talking during discussions. She is so kind to all of her classmates and is always willing to help out any adults if needed. We are so proud of Charlie and all that she is accomplishing this year. Keep up the good work! Charlie is the daughter of Jeff and Patty Kickhaefer.

Archery Practice will resume on January 5th, 2022 when we return from Christmas Break. Practice will be January 5th & 6th before and after School and January 7th before School. Anyone who has not already joined Archery, but would like to do so for the 2nd Semester,you may begin on January 5th. Please get forms and a Registration Packet from Mr. Fewin prior to January 5th! This is open to USD #487 Students Grades 4 thru 12!

All of these events will take place in the HES gym. Please have students arrive between 6:30-6:45 and report to their classroom before their music performance. We hope to see you next week!

The middle school staff members chose 8th grader, Isabelle Ecklund, as the December Student of the Month. Isabelle participates in Volleyball, Basketball, Track, Swim Team, Travel Softball and Student Council. Isabelle believes she was chosen as the Middle School Student of the month because she has a strong work ethic, is able to multitask with a very busy schedule, is responsible, caring, and she gets things done when asked. She also believes she was chosen because she pushes herself to accomplish as much as possible on and off the court. Isabelle is the daughter of Ashley Ecklund and Randy Ecklund.
Changes to quarantine procedures in USD 487
Individuals who have a positive test result or reached fully vaccinated status within the last 6 months will not be required to mask, test, or quarantine when identified as a close contact.
Individuals identified as a close contact will need to be dropped off at school each morning during their test to learn and play period, as student will need to be taken home immediately if positive.
Individuals who have been identified as a close contact from a home positive will need to quarantine at home for 10 days after the first home exposure. They may return to school after 10 days, if asymptomatic, in modified quarantine, but will need to mask and test for 10 days after last home positive.
If participating in modified quarantine, students must be tested prior to participating in any indoor activity, which could result in testing multiple times a day.

The JV scholars bowl tournament that was being hosted at Herington tomorrow, Thursday, December 9th, is rescheduled for Thursday, January 6th, 2022.

High School November Student of the Month - Diether Leach
Diether Leach is the son of Todd and Annie Leach.
Diether believes he was chosen because “I am a very determined student who strives to be the best. I always try to encourage and support all my classmates in everything that they do. I believe that I am a good role model to students”.
Diether is a senior at Herington High School, who involves himself in: Scholar’s Bowl, Photography, Drama Club, Golf, Track and FBLA.
Mrs. Vinduska believes Diether was chosen for Student of the Month “because he is not only a terrific student, but he is also a great person. He always has a smile, works hard, helps others, sets high goals for himself, and works hard to achieve those goals.”

Archery Practice this week will be Tuesday December 7th & Wednesday December 8th before & after School. Archers need to make 2 Practices of their choice. These will be the last Archery Practices before Christmas Break.
Our First Tournament after Christmas will be
Saturday January 15th, 2022 in Chapman.
Practice the first week after we return from Christmas Break will be Wednesday January 5th, and Thursday January 6th before & after School and Friday morning January 7th! Contact Mr. Fewin with Questions!

Very Proud of our Archers in their first Competition!! Very Good Competing against Archers & Schools that have been doing the NASP Program for sometime!
Congratulations to Mia Espino who won the new Genesis Bow in the Raffle. We also had Several Archers win Awards in the Partner shoot in all 3 Divisions. If you were gone during the Awards Ceremony we will get them to you at School this. We also claimed a couple of Team Awards.

V Boys will play following the JV Boys.
Our girls team will not be in action tonight since Peabody was not able to field a team. We will have other dates that our girls will play to make up for the missed games.
Tournament Saturday-Archery
Please communicate with all of your Archers and Parents etc. they would be wise to bring Lawn Chairs etc. to sit in to watch the Bullseye version of the Tournament , as there are no bleachers and also the 3-D course is definitely wilderness. Wear appropriate clothing etc.
