Opening its doors in 1954, HES welcomed its first students. Our school is a one level, Kindergarten - fifth, handicapped accessible brick building. It is located on several acres of land with up-to-date playground equipment. Bus service is provided district wide.
Herington Elementary School is served by an excellent, caring faculty and staff. Our school is served by one full-time principal, one half-time counselor, and one full-time secretary. Herington Elementary School has a well equipped library and media center. A music curriculum is provided to all students on a daily basis. Physical Education classes are also offered on a daily basis to all students. Instrumental band is offered for 5th grade students.
We are also fortunate to have a computer lab which is equipped with 21 IBM compatible computers. Each grade level is equipped with a mobile cart with 20 IBM computers. Each classroom has access to the lab for at least 1 hour per week. All classrooms have been equipped with up to four computers and two printers. The computers are networked to provide easy access to a variety of programs and options available through TEEN (Technology Excellence in Education Network).
