In the popular Marvel’s Avengers movie series, the common goal of the Avengers is to come together in a time of need, find their strengths, and save the world. The concept of finding your strengths was taken to a whole new level by individuals of the Herington FFA Chapter at the 2015 State Conference for Chapter Leaders (SCCL), held June 29 to July 1 at Rock Springs Ranch, south of Junction City. Members of the Herington FFA Chapter joined over 240 Kansas FFA members on a journey to further develop their ability to lead their local FFA chapter and develop a hero’s creed, or points of emphasis for their year of service. Throughout the conference, the six state officers related the Marvel’s Avengers movies to being a chapter leader and living out the phrase “Truth, Justice and the FFA Way.”

SCCL gives chapter FFA leaders the chance to make many discoveries for their up-coming year of service. Key points the members learned and experienced during the conference included: vision, expectations, busting leadership myths, determining what a leader would do, effective team building, and creating a shared vision. Through workshops facilitated by the state FFA officers, a select group of agricultural education instructors and agriculture experts, the students experienced the importance of these points first hand.

State FFA President, Karl Wilhelm said, “Throughout the conference, I was amazed to watch the members grow and show their true potential. They demonstrated many leadership skills that they will lead their chapters with. I have no doubt that each team will have a great year.”

The State Conference for Chapter Leaders is presented by the Kansas FFA State Officer Team, the Kansas FFA Association, and sponsored in part by Cargill and Crop Production Services.

The Kansas FFA Association, part of the National FFA Organization, has almost 9,000 student members preparing for careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture in 175 local chapters across the state.  FFA strives to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.  Visit www.ksffa.org for more information.
