Geometry Classes Build Lego Mansions
by Darlene Griffiths
May 17, 2010
Mrs. Griffiths' geometry classes were paired into groups for a Lego building project. Students were asked to build a scale mansion out of Legos. Then the groups were asked to research the cost of building the mansion, the cost of furnishing the mansion, and the time frame needed to actually build a mansion to their scale. Students have worked on the project in class once a week for 8 weeks.
On Thursday, May 13, judges were brought in to look over the projects, and students were asked to present their mansions and their research to the judges. The judges included Mr. John Thissen, Mr. Jon Utech, Mrs. Tanya Eklund, Mrs. Susan Mueller, Mr. Larry Lawrenz, and Mrs. Jami Bell. The judges were given a rubric to use in grading the projects.
Congratulations to the following groups who scored the highest on their Lego Projects.
1st Place: Kayci Schlesener and Kaelyn Parks
2nd Place: T.J. Barnes and Taryn Siegrist
3rd Place: Lacey Bennett, Nichole Bobbett, and Chandler Erickson
