Senior Allen Simmons was selected by teachers as the January Student of the Month. Allen is the son of Gary Simmons and Gabi Simmons.

Some of Allen's teachers agree that he is a good choice for student  of the month because of his attitude and classroom behaviors.

"Allen is a great student who works hard for me everyday," said Mrs. Janet Gonzolas, Spanish teacher.

"Allen is a good student who has a good attitude and works hard. He is respectful to teachers and students. He's everything you could ask for in a student," said Mr. Nick Fuemmeler, weightlifting instructor and head football coach.

Allen thinks his best characteristics are that he is friendly, honest and responsible. These are also some of the reasons Allen thinks he was chosen to receive Student of the Month.

"I'm hardworking and treat everyone with respect," Allen said.

Allen's friends describe him as a fun, outgoing and easy-to-talk-to person. His teachers describe him as intelligent, responsible and hard working.

"Allen is a conscientious person who wants to do his best," said Mrs. Deb Geissert, Language Arts instructor.

This year Allen is involved in FCCLA, Scholar's Bowl, Drama Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, football and track. Allen was also a KU honor's Scholar and is the senior class president.

His favorite class in school is weightlifting because he doesn't have to use his brain. After high school Allen plans to attend college at Arkansas Tech University where he plans to major in Emergency Management.

The best advice Allen has ever received is that "Patience is a virtue."

The most important lesson Allen has learned in life is to always give your best in whatever you're doing, and Allen's advice to others is to give their best because it will help them in the long run.

Other Nominees for student of the month were Seniors David Lao, Eric Bukowski, Jordon Polston, and Katie Lyons; Junors Chandler Erickson, Ashley Hartman, Josh Connors, Chelsea Commerford, Danny Skelton, Katey Staatz, Nichole Bobbett, Rachel Madrid, Chance Berndt, Taylor Herpich, T.J. Barnes and Kaitlin Patterson; Sophomores Donavan Davis, Dylan Geissert and Dylan Barber; and Freshmen Alyssa Lindler, Kaitlyn Clark, Kaitlin Harold and Colgan Powell.

Student of the Month is sponsored by National Honor Society, but students do not need to belong to NHS to be selected for the honor.

Each month teachers nominate students who have performed well in their classroom. From those nominees an outstanding student is selected by the faculty and staff.
