Senior Sarah Demadura has been chosen by the Herington High School staff as the November Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Donald and Linda Demadura.
Sarah thinks she was chosen because her priorities are geared toward her academics instead of her social network.
"She is a conscientious student who works hard in class. She is quick to help her fellow classmates and is very much involved with the learning process. Sarah always has a smile," said Mr. James Carnes, Advanced Math instructor.
Sarah sees herself as an extremely ambitious person who loves school. She says she is loving and caring to her friends and is willing to share with her friends and the people she cares for.
Throughout her years of high school, Sarah has learned several lessons, including the importance of school.
"High school is one of the most important things in your life, and you should enjoy it as much as possible," Sarah said.
In order to get the maximum out of high school, Sarah participates in several activities outside of the classroom.
Some of her activities are FCCLA, Treehuggers, Drama Club and Art Club. She also volunteers at the Hilltop Community Center in the summer.
Sarah's favorite class is Physics because it is a class that really makes her think.
After high school Sarah plans to attend Kansas State University where she will major in pre-veterinary medicine.
Other students who were nominated for student of the month were Seniors Ryan Schlesener, Allen Simmons and Nick Trapp; Juniors Chance Berndt, Nichole Bobbett, Josh Connors, Chandler Erickson and Kaitlin Patterson; Sophomore Dylan Geissert; and Freshmen Brianna Blackwell, Rikki Hart, Alyssa Lindler and Colgan Powell.
