Sarah Gonzolas, Colgan Powell, and Maria Traskowsky

by Anne Otte

March 05, 2010

Three Herington students, Sarah Gonzolas and Colgan Powell, HHS freshmen, and Maria Traskowsky, HMS eighth grade student, performed with the 250-voice Kansas Choral Directors’ Association Treble Voice Choir at the Kansas Music Educators’ Association yearly convention and in-service, February 26, 2010, at Century II Concert Hall.  Students were selected by blind audition of recordings entered in November by Mrs. Anne Otte, HHS and HMS music teacher.

A highlight of the day was the selection of Colgan Powell to read a narrative during the performance of the Hebrew song, Ani Ma’amin, arranged by Caldwell and Ivory.  Powell was chosen by audition before the rehearsals which began that morning.  Students performed five selections for the 5 pm concert to a nearly full auditorium. Students’ families were in attendance, in addition to music educators throughout the state.
