HMS Prepares for State Assessments
Weekly Activities Are Being Used To Promote Kansas State Assessments
If you ask any student or staff member at Herington Middle School what is the worst time of the year, almost everyone will answer the third nine weeks of school. The dreary winter months, the bitter cold weather, the sparse sunshine, and the endless drill and practice make everyone long for spring and some fun.
However, as the state assessments quickly approach, Herington Middle School students stay steadfast and focused. Months and years of preparation have always paid off for our students and school as reflected in past assessment results. This year will be no exception as our students and staff are confident in our high achieving capabilities. To help lessen the stress and give a spark of excitement in the winter months, HMS will have weekly competitions. The students and staff will have an opportunity to guess the amount of candy in a container. The one who is closest will win the entire container and its contents.
At HMS, we believe that hard work and commitment pay off. We also believe encouragement and some excitement within the school guarantees success.

This week students are submitting guesses on a jar full of Red Hots because we believe “HMS students have their hearts set on great scores.”
