March 2010 Activities and Events

Dear Herington Elementary School Parent,

We would like to inform you of the events and activities for March:
• Kansas Assessment testing has started for grades 3-5 in Reading, Math and Science for fourth grade.  The first day of testing was Monday, March 1st and the last day of testing will be Monday, April 12th.  We would like to enlist your support in making sure your student is ready for the test.  It will be important for you to make sure that your student is well rested with eight or more hours of sleep and for them to come to school with a complete, nutritional breakfast.  A breakfast rich in protein and fruit with some carbohydrates would be beneficial.  

• Portraits or payment for picture packages need to be brought back to school by Friday, March 5th.

• The end of the third nine weeks is this Friday, March 5th.   Students will be released at 12:00 to allow teachers to have a work day.  Lunch will not be served that day.   Report cards and progress reports will go out Wednesday, March 10th.  

• The spring break will start Friday, March 12th and end Friday, March 19th.   School will resume Monday, March 22nd.  

• There will be no After School Program or Fast Forward on Thursday, March 11th due to the Spring Break.  After School and Fast Forward will resume Monday, March 22nd.

• Friday, March 26th Happy Bear will be presenting appropriate touching to kindergarten, first grade and second grade.  Parents will be receiving a note on whether they choose to have their child attend this program on Monday, March 22nd.  Parents will need to send the note back to school signed that they do not wish for their child to attend if they so desire..
