Kansas Assessments for Grades 3-5 Start March 1st!

Dear Herington Elementary School Parent,

Third, fourth and fifth grade students will be taking the Kansas Assessment Tests in reading, math  for grades 3-5 and science for grade 5 from March 1st through April 12th.  

These tests compare our students to other students around Kansas in Reading, Math and science, provide the state with data for performance accreditation and is used by the school for placement, curriculum, and school improvement purposes.  

We would like to enlist your support in making sure your student is ready for the test.  It will be important for you to make sure that your student is well rested with eight or more hours of sleep and for them to come to school with a complete, nutritional breakfast.  A breakfast rich in protein and fruit with some carbohydrates would be beneficial.  

We would also like to enlist your help in providing students with a healthy snack during the test.  If you would send any of the items below for 25 or more students, it would be greatly appreciated during the 4 weeks of testing.

Raw vegetables: Such as carrots, celery, cauliflower, and broccoli
Fruits: Such as apples, bananas, grapes, tangerines, oranges
Protein: Such as jerky, beef sticks, crackers and cheese.

These may be brought to the grade school office where they will be taken to the kitchen for storage and later provided to students during snack time during the tests.
