Dear Herington Elementary School Parent,

We would like to remind you of the following activities and events for the month of January 2010:

• The Title I Reading meeting for all school parents has been canceled for tonight, Monday, January 11th due to technical problems with the schools networks.   We are going to reschedule it with the Title I Math night on Monday, January 25th from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the schools computer lab.  Both math and reading teachers will acquaint parents with free web sites to assist their students in reading and math.

• The grade school Spelling Bee will be at 1:30 pm in on Wednesday, January 13th in the grade school gym.   Students in grades 4-5 will compete for the chance to participate in the County Spelling Bee in February.  Parents are welcome to attend.

• There will be no school on Monday, January 18th for students.   The grade school staff will be attending a technology in-service sponsored by the area Teen Network.  There will be no After School Program or Fast Forward on Monday, January 18th.

• On Thursday, January 21st the Life Touch photographers will be here to take the students’ spring portraits and classroom pictures.   Mrs.  Staatz will be sending information to parents on this shortly.  Parents will be asked to pick a backdrop for their student’s portrait.   Parents will be required to pay for the classroom picture by Thursday, January 21st.  Later, when parents receive their students’ individual portraits they can decide on several packages to purchase.

• The Dickinson Health Department will be back in the building Friday, January 22nd to give the second part of the H1N1 nasal spray to students who received the first dosage.   Mrs. Freisen will be sending permission slips to those who will receive the second dosage shortly.
