Dear Parent,

We would like to remind you of the events and activities for the month of December:
• On Saturday, December 5th the superintendent is conducting a tour of new grade schools in the Kansas City area to give interested parties an insight of what the new school can look like. The staff and public are invited to participate. If you are interested , please contact the board office at 258-2263.

• Please join us Tuesday, December 8th, 2009 for our Winter Program. It begins at 7 PM! Doors to the program open at 6:30 pm. Students must arrive at school and be in their classrooms between 6:30 pm and 6:40 pm so they may line up and prepare to walk down to the gym. The first row of chairs are reserved for the elderly and handicapped, they are marked as reserved. During the program, we ask for everyone to stay seated and that students remain seated with their parents. We ask that students dress up for the performance.

• There will be no After School Program or Fast Forward the night of the program on Tuesday, December the 8th.

• Please remember that there is a H1N1 and Seasonal Flu Vaccination clinic on Wednesday December 9th at the Herington Fair Board Building form 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. The seasonal Flu vaccination is open to all individuals and the H1N1 vaccination is available to the six priority groups.

• Grades K-3 are now taking the Deibels Reading Survey Test from Tuesday, December 1st to Friday, December 4th. This is a 5 minute test that is used to see how students are progressing. Teachers will use the test results to adjust instruction in their classrooms.

• Kindergarten students will be taking the Maps test on the computer for the first time on Monday, December 7th to Friday, December 11th. This test will show where students are in their skills in relation to others in the class and other students in the United States. Again this information will be used by the teachers to adjust instruction.

• The end of the first semester will be on Friday, December 18th. If students have any make up work, they need to have it in by the end of that day. Teachers will be working on the first semester grade reports that will be given out on Wednesday, January 6th.

• Students will be dismissed for the Winter Break at the end of the day Friday, December 18th, 2009. School will resume Tuesday, January 5th, 2010.

• The faculty and staff want to wish you a Merry and Safe holiday season!
