Honor Choir Selections

by Anne Otte

November 11, 2009

Six HHS students and one HMS student were selected in November for honor choirs.

Three students, Sarah Gonzolas and Colgan Powell, HHS freshmen, and Maria Traskowsky, HMS eighth grade student, were recently selected as members of the 200-voice Kansas Choral Directors’ Association Statewide Treble Voice Choir.  Students were selected on the basis of submission of recordings of their voice which were later judged by music teachers.  Over 600 students throughout the state auditioned for this choir.  The KCDA choir will perform Feb 26 at Century II Concert Hall in Wichita at the Kansas Music Educators’ (KMEA) Annual Convention and Inservice.

Four HHS students, Savannah Bukowski, sophomore, and Josh Connors, Derek Knopp, and Rachel Madrid, HHS juniors, were selected on Nov. 7 at Junction City High School through live auditions of an approximate total of 350 students to be members of the KMEA North Central District Honor Choir.  They will as part of a 150-voice choir on Dec. 7 at Manhattan High School, as part of the North Central District Mini-Convention and Concert.  All four students will be eligible for selection of the KMEA All-State Choir, which performs at the February KMEA convention in Wichita.

Students were entered into their respective competitions by HMS-HHS choral instructor, Mrs. Anne Otte.  All HMS and HHS choral students had the opportunity to take part in the auditions.
