Middle School: Principal's Message

2009 Middle School Back to School Information

By Steve Mies

I hope that everyone is having a fun and safe Summer. There are several items that I would like to bring to your attention. The Middle School Office will open on Friday, July 31st. However, the District Office is open all Summer, and Mrs. Peggy Hilliard is always ready to provide assistance at 785-258-2263.

We are hosting a Food, Facts and Fun Night for all Middle School students and their parents/guardians on Thursday, August 13th from 6-7:30 P.M. We will start serving hotdogs and chips at 6 PM. Please bring your own lawn chairs. Our goal is to have teachers make short presentations at around 6:30 PM. (Please keep in mind this will be teachers' first contracted day, and their classrooms may not be totally put back together.) I am looking forward to seeing all my students and their parents/guardians at this special event!

The first day of school for sixth graders and new MS students will be Tuesday, August, 18th, from 8:20-12 noon. We decided to continue having this orientation opportunity because of the many positive comments from students and parent/guardians. The first day of school for all MS students will be Wednesday, August, 19th.

Middle School Enrollment dates and times are as follows:

  • Monday, August 3               8:00- 11:00 a.m.         12:00-3:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, August 4               11:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m.  4:00 - 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday, August 5          8:00- 11:00 a.m.         12:00-3:00 p.m.

Payments for textbook fees and meal accounts will be collected at enrollment.  Application forms for the Child Nutrition Program will be available.  Families qualifying for the program will receive a waiver of textbook fees.

The list for school supplies is included on our MS web site under office.
