The Herington High School band, directed by Mr. Kenny Roe, went
to Council Grove for the Flint Hills League Music Festival on Feb.
20.
The band played “Aventura” by James Swearingen, and “Rough-Riders”
by Karl King.
Overall, the Herington band’s rating was a II, meaning the band’s
performance was pleasing to the judges.
“I think the band played fairly well. There were a few mistakes,
but overall a good performance,” said Mr. Roe, band director.
“I was unsure about the festival at first, since this is my first
year in the district, but I liked how it was run. I especially
liked having the clinician listen then come up and work a few parts
of the song in order for the song to sound better. The clinician
did a nice job with his critiques. I think the comments made were
somewhat eye opening to the students since I have said some of the
same things before,” Mr. Roe added.
Bands from Osage City, West Franklin, Northern Heights and Council
Grove were the other groups that participated in the music
festival.
