Junior Jake Meyer has been chosen as January's Student of the
Month at Herington High School because of has academic
accomplishments, attitude and participation. Jake is the son of Ben
and Kristi Meyer.
The Student of the Month selection is made by teacher
nomination.
"Jake is an excellent student academically. He brings a winning
personality and a good sense of humor with him to class. Jake also
is involved in many extracurricular activities which makes him a
well-rounded student," said Mrs. Darlene Griffiths, math
instructor.
American History and Geometry are Jake's favorite classes
because he's good at them.
Some of the activities in which he is involved include football,
basketball and baseball. He also is president of his church youth
group and enjoys being with his family and friends.
"I look up to my dad because he stays determined, and he's
always there," Jake said.
Jake thinks he was chosen for Student of the Month because of
his participation in class, his kindness toward fellow students,
and his hard work.
Teachers agree with this assessment.
"Jake is a kid who strives to do the right things in the
classroom, on the court and in the community. He is a great
representative of Herington High School because of his excellent
work ethic and his desire to do his best at all times," said Mr.
Tony Hopps, P.E. instructor and boys' basketball coach.
Jake's positive attitude and work ethic can be seen in his
advice to other students.
"Complete your homework, participate in activities and don't be
afraid to show who you are," Jake said.
As far as future plans are concerned, Jake wants to attend
college after he graduates. Bethany College and Emporia State
University are two he is considering. He hopes to receive a
basketball or baseball scholarship from the school he decides to
attend. He is undecided on his major.
