Middle School Site Council
March 5, 2008
5:00 – 6:00
The meeting was held on March 5, 2008, at the HMS library.
The meeting was called to order by Ben Meyer.
Those in attendance at the meeting were Steve Mies, Beth Blackwell,
Dawn Melcher, Ben Meyer, Mary Weber, Brianna Blackwell, Alex
Keithline, and Cara Meyer.
Approval of Minutes
The minutes from the March 5 meeting were approved. (C.

Old Business
Building Project – A meeting was held February 28 for anyone
interested in working on committees for the promotion of the Bond
for the facilities update.
A tentative 2008-2009 schedule was presented. It was again
emphasized that high school students will have six classes each day
with a floating seminar. The middle school students will have
seminar each day after lunch.
The State Assessment schedule was presented along with the
challenge to HMS students of “Deal or No Deal”. The students
accepted the challenge to do their very best on the
assessments. A skating party is in the planning stages.
New Business
Members were encouraged to attend the Lewis and Clark
Musical, Thursday, March 6, at 7:00 P.M. The students shared
they have worked hard getting ready for it and that it should be a
fun production.
The school district will use Skyward as the new student management
system next year. The current Prostar system will no longer
be available.
The NCA Visit (Quality Assurance Review) is April 2, 2008.
The Site Council will meet with the visiting team from 10 – 11 AM
on that day. The seven AdvancEd Standards were discussed as
possible focus questions from the team.
There will be a new eligibility policy in place next year.
A committee has been formed to re-write the existing policy.
Grade 6-8 girls have the opportunity to attend a science day at
K-State on April 5.
The Alert Now phone communication system was praised by
members.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for March 10 and 11 from
4:30 – 8:00. They will be held in the high school
gymnasium.
Members were reminded about the early dismissal this Friday, March
7. It is the end of the nine weeks and teachers will work on
3rd nine weeks grades.

The meeting was held on December 5, 2007, at the HMS library.
The meeting was called to order by Steve Mies.
Those in attendance at the meeting were Steve Mies, Beth Blackwell,
Julee Slater, and Alex Keithline.
Approval of Minutes
The minutes from the November 7 meeting were approved.

Old
Business
Building Project – The BOE met with the Bonds people for much
discussion about out project. They will meet again December
12 to make final decisions.
Schedule 2008-2009 – The decisions for change were administration
driven, but the schedule was developed by a committee of
teachers.
Veterans Day Activities – The event was well-planned and carried
out nicely.
New Business
The County Spelling Bee will be held at Herington Middle School
in February. Representing HMS are the
following:
8th grade – Josh Brunner & Anthony Gutsch
7th grade – Courtney Crosby & Hailey Parker
6th grade – Kyler Amman & Daniel Melcher
The Aaron Davis assembly went well with a message on respecting
your dreams, yourself and others. He reminded the students to
never forget to laugh. Aaron was complimentary of our student
body.
Forms were given out for Tri-county Educator of the Year.
Nominations are due 12/14
Josh Patterson has been named the National Merit Scholar based
on his PSAT Test score.
Scheduling and plans for giving the State Assessments are in
progress.
