Once again, it is time for students to take the Kansas State Assessments.  Kansas uses these assessments to determine whether or not a student meets standards in specific areas such as reading, writing, math, science, and social science.  Teachers also use the state assessments as one method to gain insight into the skills, abilities, and knowledge of a student.

Below is the state assessment schedule for HMS students:

Reading

Grades 6, 7, and 8

March 25, 26, and 27

Math

Grades 6, 7, and 8

March 31, April 1 and 4

Social Science

Grades 6 and 8

April 21 and 23

Science

Grades 6 and 8

April 21 and 23

It is extremely important for your child to be in attendance on the testing dates.  Furthermore, it will also help the student’s progress, if the student is well-rested on testing days and if he or she has eaten a well-balanced breakfast.  Please remind students to put forth their best effort while taking these assessments.

Due to No Child Left Behind guidelines, we are required to show that all students are making progress in meeting state standards.  Therefore, if a student does not meet standards, he or she will be required to receive remedial assistance during summer school.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact either Mr. Mies or Mrs. Burkholder.
