Herington Elementary

Site Council Summary

The Herington Elementary Site Council met on September 4^th at 5:30 pm in the grade school music room.  The following members  were present:  Mrs. Addis, Mr. De Mont, Mrs. Marshall, Mrs. Schrader, and Mrs. Thompson.  Janell Mac Namara was attending as an observer. 

Mr. De Mont did introductions for the members present and listed the others who were not able to attend.  He said he was still looking for a noncertified employee member.

Mr. De Mont informed the group of the purpose of the site council and the various functions it can serve as an advisory group.  Besides school improvement the board of education and superintendent may ask insight from the group on certain issues.  Too, the group may have some issues that deal with school improvement they may wish to discuss.  Mr. De Mont asked for the group to read the training information provided and that he will give them the training video when it becomes available.  Mrs. Thompson volunteered to view the video first.

Mr. De Mont gave the group the districts goals and mission statement.  He reminded the group that the district bases all decisions with these goals in mind.

Mr. De Mont handed out the 2006 Herington Elementary Site Council By Laws.  He explained the need to review these and make any suggestions to the group about changes.   Changes would be approved by the group and submitted to the Board of Education for approval.

Mr.  De Mont asked the group to think about issues that deal with school improvement that they would like to bring up during the year and discuss.

Since there was missing members of the council he suggested they wait for elections of chairpersons and secretary until the next meeting.

He asked about input on meeting dates and times.  The group thought an earlier meeting time would be better.  It was decided to determine that at the next meeting.

The site council membership decided that the following should be put on the next agenda: election of chairpersons and secretary, site council times, by laws and possible issues to examine.

The meeting adjourned at 6:00 pm.
